Recognizing Mental Health Month in May is essential
May is Mental Health month and I wanted to find a way to do my part in raising awareness. As a mother raising children in this scary and difficult time of political unrest and a pandemic, I am more and more aware of the impact these things have on children growing up in this chaos. Almost everyone has been touched to some degree by depression, anxiety or feelings of hopelessness.
To do my part, I am teaming up with Mental Health America of Greater Houston to raise awareness and money to support this amazing organization. They work to replace stigmas about mental illness with compassion and proper treatment to all Texans, including children, which I feel strongly about, considering all that they are being forced to process at such a vulnerable time in their lives. They work directly with schools to identify and implement best practices to empower school personnel with the knowledge they need to prevent mental illness among students and to ensure early identification and intervention for those exhibiting signs and symptoms of behavioral health concerns.
