Most Important Elements in Designing a Room

When we design a space for your home, we design it in layers. The scope of your project determines which layer we start with. If your project is a full renovation or new build the first layer will likely be your floors. If your project is a full furniture design, likely we will start with paint. None the less window coverings are the element that often gets left out. Sometimes its because of budget or it is deemed to not be necessary in finishing a project. Custom window treatments elevate a space. They are the finishing layer that is filled with all sorts of details and are made especially for your project. Having window treatments made are nothing like buying window treatments from Pottery Barn. There is another level of overall look, finish, and quality.

Every element that goes into a custom window treatment is completely custom. The color is custom, the print is custom, the pleat is custom, the trim is custom. Every detail is specified to enhance every other layer in your space. Some are functional while others are plainly there to add the finishing dimension. There are many functions in custom window treatments that you will not find in pre-made window treatments. For instance, you can choose which type of lining you would like to use. They offer multiple types such as blackout lining. There are several different types of pleats. Under the pleat you can specify to have crinoline which allows for a stiff pleat. We prefer to have softer pleats, therefore we specify no crinoline be used. We often specify a trim piece to run down the leading edge of the drape for another element of detail. There are countless options and details that go into designing just your window covering. Therefore, window treatments are so important.  They add softness to all the hard finishes in the room. When we forget the drapes, it is like forgetting the pillows on the sofa. The windows need as much attention as the sofa!
